| Captek |
Clients who have fitted CAPTEK crowns have reported back to us how pleased both they are and their patients are with these restorations. We have been asked why they appear to be more aesthetic and true to shade than conventional bonded crowns. The reason is that dental porcelains will readily absorb metallic oxides during the firing which causes them to change colour. When dental porcelains are manufactured metallic oxides are introduced within their formulation to achieve the required shades. In conventionally constructed bonded restorations the framework alloys are oxidised and these oxides are readily absorbed by the porcelain when it is fired in the furnace causing the porcelain to absorb oxides diffusing from the metallic/ceramic interface on each firing |
and therefore this causes a deterioration in the vitality of the porcelain.
The substructure of a CAPTEK crown is 98% pure gold and does not form any oxides on heating in the furnace. It therefore can not cause the shade of the porcelain to change.
One other advantage of CAPTEK crowns is that they cause less irritation to soft tissue than conventional crowns because of their high gold content. |
| ORTHODONTIC APPLIANCES
We are now able to make orthodontic appliances in a range of bright colours and multi-colours. Request a colour chart.
REPAIRS AND ADDITIONS
Many repairs and additions are sent to us without opposing impressions. If an opposing impression is sent we would be able to clear the bite often reducing your fitting time and increase patient satisfaction. Furthermore we would sometimes be able to determine reasons why dentures are fracturing (i.e. premature contact over erupting teeth, etc.) and take any necessary action to resolve a problem.
Please always take a shade in the surgery and make a note of it on the prescription form when sending additions to us.
Where addition of teeth have been requested it always helps |

The Swinglock Denture
For those patients with mobile anterior teeth the Swinglock Denture is an excellent way of maintaining a splinting action and also provides the retentive for a denture. The Swinglock has been available for a number of years and patients who have been wearing them have found that their splinting action assists in retaining their teeth
Bremanar Implant System
Members of our staff recently attended an update on this implant system and are fully conversant with the recently introduced single tooth fixtures available for this system. |

Where roots are present please indicate if they will be extracted or not.
Nightguards
With many patients showing aggressive nocturnal wear of their teeth we are increasingly being asked to make these appliances. They
|
come supplied with a convenient carrying container and cleaning instructions. They are available as Glass Clear, Monster Slimy, Green, Turtle Green, Fluorescent Orange/Red and Deep Sea Blue. In use it would appear that the coloured nightguards have the advantage of not becoming as stained as the clear ones. |

| Playsafe Mouthguards
In these days when litigation is common place, it is essential to prescribe a mouthguard that has the highest of protective properties. Playsafe Mouthguards manufacture a range of 4 different mouthguards each of which complies with the Personal Protective Equipment Legislation (PPE) and contain the players name and ce mark permanently sealed within them.
|
The range are called Light, Medium, Heavy and Heavy Pro. The Light is for players who only have deciduous teeth. The Medium is for players who play sports such as Rugby where they will not encounter a weapon. The Heavy is for players who will encounter a weapon such as Lacrosse and Hockey and the Heavy-Pro is for players who will encounter a hard ball or weapon going at speed such as a cricket or ice hockey. It is therefore essential to advise us of the sport(s) being played by the player so that we can make the appropriate Mouthguard for them. The Playsafe Mouthguard is available in a choice of 13 different colours or with up to 5 different colours within each mouthguard. |
A tip for next summer
We had a noticeable increase in the number of ill-fitting chromes last summer. On investigation it was discovered that the hot weather caused distortion of impressions in the morning when it is coolest and at such a time that we can collect them on the same day with our normal collection so as to ensure we can cast the models on arrival at the laboratory. Please ensure that the cold tap water is allowed to run so that it is cool water being used to mix with the alginate. Warm water should never be used as it accelerates the setting time causing distortion of the alginate. Alginate impressions should never be put in a refrigerator or freezer as the impressions distorts. |
